The Big Draw – Day 5: Kite and Dylan Playing the Wii

I can’t believe Dylan and I have been doing the Big Draw for five days now! It’s been an extraordinary and fun experience so far, and I’m already starting to feel a lot more confident about working with pen.

Dylan only drew one thing today, which was quite unusual. I’m not sure why he drew a kite. He often sits down and draws a ton of things, all from his imagination. Today he was thinking of kites for some reason.

My mom is here (she came yesterday and is staying for another night) and he loves playing with her, so there wasn’t as much time to draw today.

He especially loves playing the Wii with Nana (actually, he calls her bi-Nana, a throwback to the days when he would say “my Nana” but he pronounced “m”’s as “b”s). Which leads me to my drawing for today:

Rowena’s post today inspired me to draw from life Danny Gregory style – I have both Everyday Matters and the Creative License, and don’t know why I didn’t think of trying to draw from every day life before this.

So there I was, watching Dylan playing the Wii with my mom, and I couldn’t resist trying to capture the outline of the back/side of his head in my sketchbook. One thing lead to another and I ended up with the television, too!

I love both again…Dylan’s wonderful kite flying high, the imagine of him playing with bi-nana, and your rendition of him doing same.
Being a Happy Grandma mysef, I know your mother’s joy!
    Happy for all concerned.

Dylan’s kite is lovely. I really get a sense of it flying high.

Your sketch of Dylan is sweet too. I can just see how much you love him in this sketch. Be well, Suki

    awesome!

I don’t know why I never think of the Danny Gregory thing, either. I used to love doing that stuff, and it just occurred to me yesterday. It really is very useful for the big draw.

It’s so hard to draw kids. They never sit still. Well, sometimes in front of the tv.
