Dylan and I have decided to participate in The Big Draw – it’s a drawing challenge that runs for the month of October (I discovered it via one of its participants, Meanderings.) We’ll both draw something every day.
Dylan already draws every day, but for me it will be more of a challenge. I haven’t done any drawing since he was born, and he’s five now. I thought this would be a fun way to get into blogging regularly, and it would give us mommy and son time doing something that we both love.
I’m more than a bit rusty, but after doing today’s drawing (I drew Dylan drawing! – it was tough because he wiggled a lot. And it doesn’t look much like him, either) I’m remembering again how relaxing drawing is. Sitting and focusing and truly seeing something is very much like meditation.
So here are our Day 1 drawings (Dylan actually did a lot more drawings today but we picked this one for his Day 1 drawing):

Welcome to The Big Draw!
I think it’s wonderful that you are doing this with your son. An excellent idea! As well as being our youngest participant he’s our only boy!
Happy drawing!!!

Wow. That’s great. I love his drawing and yours, too. It’s really hard to draw little kids. They wiggle. I will probably try some drawings of my own kids, too somewhere over the next month. It’s a good way to incorporate taking care of them into the challenge.

How cool is that that Dylan is in the big Draw too!
Welcome to both of you.
I hope I can keep up with Dylan.
Both drawings are wonderful.
