Artwork by Dylan: Flowers and a Shark

We bought a set of twelve small tempera paint jars today, and pulled out the cartridge paper. Dylan sat at the kitchen table and painted some lovely pictures.

Flowers

He painted these flowers for the guests for his upcoming birthday party. We’re having a family party, and he’s very excited, counting the sleeps before the party comes.

Shark

Sharks and dinosaurs are a new favourite. This is a shark (hammerhead, I think he said). When I marveled at the fact that he covered all of the paper, he pointed out that he needed to paint the entire background.

It’s good to see him back to doing his artwork!

In Bloom

It’s just a gorgeous day today – we’re supposed to hit a high of 27 degrees (Celsius). The sun is shining, and some of the spring bulbs are in full bloom.

These are the tulips just off the back deck. They are always one of the first signs of spring around here.

I love my bulbs so much – always so reliable, and that beautiful splash of colour just when I need it, after a long and rather dreary winter.

These particular tulips don’t look like classic tulips. I can’t remember their name, but I loved them because of their gorgeous star shape.

We don’t have that many bulbs at the front of the house – we need to put in a new gate and walkway, so we haven’t devoted that much attention to the front the past few years. But these little beauties have been around for the past few weeks:

The Big Draw – Day 2: Flowers & Phone

I’m really liking the the Big Draw challenge so far. I’d forgotten how wonderful it feels to just take a break from “stuff” to sit down and focus on something fun like drawing.

It took me far more time to find something to draw than it did to actually sit and draw it! I’m very drawn to charcoal because I find I draw so much better if I can shade, so I’m determined that I’ll use this challenge to work mostly using pen. I finally found a picture of a BlackBerry in one of my magazines, so sat down to draw that while Dylan worked on quite a few drawings.

As he puts it, “You can draw from a book, Mommy. I’m going to draw from my imagination.” Which he did. Today we had a choice of train tracks (x 2), an envelope and flowers. We decided on the flowers.
