Today Dylan and I finished up our first Christmas crafts project of the year: we painted wooden ornaments using Elmer’s Squeeze ‘n’ Brush paint pens and 3D Glitter pens. It all came as a kit, which was nice.

Yesterday’s ornaments are dry!

We’ve never used these Elmer products before – they’re not very messy (although we always work on a melamine board so things can get messy and it’s not a problem – which is a good thing since we paint at the kitchen table!). You squeeze the paint pens and out comes a dollop of paint, right onto the bristles of the brush. Not great for painting fine lines but very easy to use for painting larger areas.

Concentrating …

Ahhhh … beautiful star!

The best part? You don’t even have to rinse the paint pens. You just put the caps back on over the brush and they’re (supposedly) good to go for the next round.

(Of course, they won’t replace regular paint around here, since you can’t mix your own colors! But still, they were fun to use.)

Easy to use paint pens

There was one Squeeze ‘n’ Brush paint pen that was more like a dauber. The paint was an opalescent glitter, perfect for Christmas crafts. If I see these sold individually, I’ll definitely buy a few. We did one snowflake using this paint pen and the results were very nice – and so easy (like, daub, daub, daub, done …)

This one is great for "daubing" glitter

And the 3D Glitter Pens – definitely FUN! I even used them to create mini-ornaments on one of the Christmas trees. Dylan liked them for the gingerbread boy’s feet and hands.
