Yesterday’s Train Day
So I had a fabulous time yesterday. I knew I would, though. I was already excited just getting into the car (and now I’m thinking, I seriously, seriously DON’T GET OUT ENOUGH).
But still, part of the excitement was sharing Dylan’s excitement. This was our very first “train event”, and when it was over, Ward and I realized it was the first of many more to come.
It was a great day. The layout was just fantastic, and every half an hour they turned off the lights to simulate evening and it was just so pretty. You could see the lights in the trains as they went by, and the buildings all had lights in them. There were street lights on, and even a campfire had a little glow to it. The attention to detail was just stunning.
We went armed with a camcorder and a digital camera, and when we got back home, we realized we didn’t take any pictures of Dylan there. That was because every time we pointed the camera at him, he’d say, “No take pictures of me! Take pictures of trains!”
His wish is our command.
I have never had an interest in trains, real ones or model ones. But Dylan loves them. So is it surprising that, given what I do for a living, I’m now working on a blog about Dylan and trains? So I won’t write anymore about our day here - save the juice for one of the first posts at the new blog.
It was a great day, though. An hour and a half of watching model trains zoom around an incredibly large, fully detailed layout. It was one of those “I never would have thought I’d be here doing this” kind of things, but there can be so much pleasure in the unexpected.
A family day, at it’s best.
